Convert LPs and cassettes to digital and convert mp3 to cd
by admin on Nov.26, 2008, under Import LPs and Cassettes
I read this great article at macworld. Its about how you can turn your old cassettes and LPs into the digital age. You get to know some of the good and bad sides of how to do it. And it isn’t as hard as you would think. I was mostly reading it to get to know how to turn my cassettes into a digital file since LPs was before my age, but still fun to listen to.
I thought it was an expensive type of job to do this, but look here:
“With just a few steps, very little money, and a reasonable amount of time, you can bring those classic recordings into the digital era.”
Then I read more about it, could I be able to do this without getting a music studio into my house? I got some equipment to listen to it and a mac so it shouldn’t be that hard to do it. And it wasn’t.
One thing you have to remember is that you havent got any “tracks” on these old formats. Now you start to remember the old times when you had to rewind the tapes and go back to find the start of a particular song. I was abit ahead of the article in my mind, but they got this great little feature that could split the tracks for you, depending on the noise level in the single audio file you get when importing the LP or cassette.
This is a must read:
“A friend in New Hampshire recently asked me how to record LPs directly to CD.”
If you go at it, import your LPs and cassettes into a CD and delete all the old files, then you will do it again some later time. Because CDs will be the old format in a short time, all music will be recorded in higher quality and you need to have it on your portable iPod or other type of mp3 player, and they will also improve in time. So mp3 isn’t going to last as long either.
It was a very useful article, good writing from Mathew Honan who also writes for the magazine Wired. Go out and buy yourself a external harddrive and import your good old songs! Read his article here.
